Westlands School employs a catchment area system primarily determined by proximity to the school. The top priority is accorded to pupils currently in Year 6 at feeder schools, namely Westlands Primary School and Regis Manor Primary School. Following that, consideration is given to children residing in the neighboring parishes of Bobbing, Borden, Bredgar, Hartlip, Iwade, Lower Halstow, Newington, Stockbury, Tunstall, and Upchurch. Ultimately, the distance between children's homes and the school is assessed, measured in a straight line.

Westlands School employs the Kent 11 Plus exam structure, encompassing assessments in Reasoning, English, and Maths.

The exam format is as follows:
Section 1: A one-hour examination gauging students' reasoning abilities. Comprising shorter segments, the test assesses Verbal Reasoning, Spatial Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
Section 2: A one-hour examination evaluating proficiency in English and Maths.
Section 3: A 40-minute writing task, including 10 minutes of preparation time. Although the writing task is not scored for the 11 Plus exam, it may serve as supporting evidence in borderline cases.
