Simon Langton Girls' Grammar School

Founded in 1881, Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School is a selective school based in Canterbury, Kent that teaches girls aged 11-18. Boys have been admitted into the school’s Sixth Form since 2010. Over 1,000 students are taught at Simon Langton Girls’, with the school placing emphasis on developing positive relationships between pupils and teachers and forging mutual respect.

Throughout their educational journey at Simon Langton Girls’, students benefit from a diverse, well-rounded, and ambitious curriculum that upholds rigorous academic standards, equipping them with the knowledge and skills essential for lifelong learning. The school goes beyond the national curriculum with its Langton Extended Curriculum, offering students elective programs that  encourage creativity, out-of-the-box thinking, and the development of key attributes such as adaptability, vision, and problem-solving skills.

Prioritizing the overall well-being of its cohort, the school implements an extensive program of initiatives supporting students with mental and other health issues, while also promoting physical activity. This includes a range of sporting pursuits such as netball, volleyball, and badminton, fostering confidence through healthy competition.

Admission to Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School is through the local authority’s selection processes. The school, which acquired specialist status in music and information and communication technology (ICT) in September 2005, continues to invest in its educational offerings, with a new director of music taking up her post in the recent September. While the school maintains an average size, it boasts a large sixth form. Although the majority of students are White British, the school is witnessing a growing number from minority ethnic groups. Few students come from disadvantaged backgrounds or are entitled to free school meals, and the school has a low number of students with learning difficulties or disabilities.
