Gravesend Grammar School implements a catchment area policy that determines admission priorities based on the geographical location and proximity to the school.


Admission priorities are structured as follows:

  • Preference is given to pupils residing within the Borough of Gravesham.

  • Further consideration is extended to pupils residing within specific civil parishes, including Ash-cum-Ridley, Bean, Fawkham, Hartley, Longfield and New Barn, Southfleet, Swanscombe and Greenhithe, and Stansted.

  • Additional consideration is given to pupils residing in other designated civil parishes, namely Stone, Darenth, Horton Kirby and South Darenth, Cliffe, and Cliffe Woods.

Gravesend Grammar School employs the Kent 11 Plus exam structure, encompassing assessments in Reasoning, English, and Maths.


This test is utilized to evaluate the suitability of prospective students for admission to the school and is adopted by the majority, though not all, of the 35 wholly selective and 4 partially selective grammar schools in the region.


The exam format is as follows:


Section 1: A one-hour examination gauging students' reasoning abilities. Comprising shorter segments, the test assesses Verbal Reasoning, Spatial Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning.


Section 2: A one-hour examination evaluating proficiency in English and Maths.


Section 3: A 40-minute writing task, including 10 minutes of preparation time. Although the writing task is not scored for the 11 Plus exam, it may serve as supporting evidence in borderline cases.

Parents who have registered will receive their Kent Test results via email after 4 pm, providing a breakdown of their child's scores. Additionally, results will be accessible online from 5 pm, allowing parents to log in and review the outcomes.
